Returns are an inevitable part of e-commerce. But besides the logistics of the return process, you also need to keep the financial administration correct. MoneybirdSync fully automates the processing of returns as credit notes in Moneybird.
What is a credit note?
A credit note (also called credit memo) is a document that fully or partially cancels a previously issued invoice. When a customer returns a product and receives a refund, you need to correct the original invoice in your administration with a credit note.
When does MoneybirdSync create a credit note?
MoneybirdSync automatically creates a credit note in Moneybird when:
- A Shopify order is fully cancelled
- A full refund is processed in Shopify
- A partial refund is processed in Shopify
How does credit note processing work?
The process runs fully automatically:
- Customer requests return and Shopify processes the refund
- Shopify sends a refund webhook to MoneybirdSync
- MoneybirdSync looks up the original Moneybird invoice
- A credit note is automatically created with the correct amounts
- The payment (refund) is registered on the credit note
- Moneybird is automatically back in balance
Partial returns
MoneybirdSync also correctly processes partial returns. If a customer returns one of three products, MoneybirdSync creates a credit note for only that product with the correct VAT amount.
Benefits of automatic credit note processing
- Your administration is always correct, even with returns
- No manual work for credit notes
- Correct VAT correction for every return
- Complete audit trail in your Moneybird administration
- Less chance of errors in VAT returns
